I think I just blue myself.
During an appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast, “The BS Report”, Arrested Development co-producer Brian Grazer, who runs Imagine Entertainment with Ron Howard, announced plans to produce 17 more episodes of the cult TV show for Netflix.
“We are going to do another 17 episodes,” Grazer said. “So stay tuned for Arrested Development.”
While this announcement was about as unofficial as it gets, this is the first solid indication of new plans regarding the series, which was famously resurrected by Netflix in 2013 nearly a decade after getting the axe from Fox.
Shockingly, this news didn’t appear to phase Simmons, who quickly moved on with a discussion regarding Empire, Fox’s new hit drama also produced by Imagine.
Still, another round of Arrested Development could signal “anustart” for the series after some intensely negative critical and fan responses to the fourth season. Many (this writer not included) decried the new format of the series, which found episodes focusing on individual characters instead of being the ensemble piece it was known for.
While there’ve been rumblings and rumors of another season since the fourth debuted—and keeping in mind this is a show known for stops, starts, rumor, and conjecture—the prospect of 17 more episodes of the Bluth family has us positively giddy with anticipation. There’s no news yet on format or who will be returning to the fray, so stay tuned for more information as it gets announced.
Below, you’ll find a video of the interview with Grazer; the Arrested Development talk begins around 24:20, with his announcemet coming in at 24:30.
