Barrence Whitfield & the Savages will release a new album Under The Savage Sky on August 21. This is the band’s second release with Bloodshot Records, following 2013’s Dig Thy Savage Soul.
Consequence of Sound premiered a new song “Incarceration Casserole” saying, “The song captures all the fun and mayhem of the band’s halcyon days both lyrically and musically, sounding like a lost basement demo from their youth.”
With the raw vocals, thick and nasty guitar tones, and preternaturally locked-in rhythm section, Under the Savage Sky might be the most soulful punk record—or perhaps the most punk soul record— you’ve ever heard. Compact, three minute-or-less blasts rocket back to the explosive heydays of The Dirtbombs and genre godfathers The Sonics.
In support of the new album, Barrence Whitfield & the Savages have announced tour dates in late August/September across the United States and Canada. The band will add more dates soon, but for now here’s the current itinerary:
