Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Animal Style

Bands and record labels have famously clashed over the commercial viability of their albums on numerous occasions over the years. Quite possibly the most famous was Wilco and Reprise’s well documented feud over Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The latest in band versus label war is the Indianapolis based indie-pop band Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s and Epic Records who found themselves disagreeing so much on the song selection for their latest effort that they ended up putting out two versions of it on the same day – Animal! and Not Animal (Animal being the band’s version and Not Animal the label’s).

Both albums contain twelve tracks, but only five of those songs appear on both releases including the first single that was released. Label disputes aside, the band stopped by Conan a couple of weeks back for a fantastically innovative and highly entertaining performance of As Tall Of Cliffs…

For those who are interested, the band is streaming both Animal! and Not Animal on their website, so head over and play record label exec for yourself.
