The parade of those who influenced the Allman Brothers Band and those who have been influenced by the Southern Rock pioneers continues at the newly renovated Beacon Theatre on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where blues veteran John Hammond and the Queen of Hazel Eyed Soul – Bonnie Bramlett, were among the special guests for show number six.

Bramlett, known as the “Allman Sister” for her work with the group in the ’70s, joined the Brothers along with daughter Bekka for takes on songs she recorded with Gregg Allman, Eric Clapton and with the recently departed Delaney Bramlett in Delaney & Bonnie. Blues luminary John Hammond channeled his work with Duane Allman during his sit-ins in both the first and second sets.
Guitarist Susan Tedeschi and keyboard wiz Bruce Katz added their immense talents – along with the Bramlett’s – for a soulful take on The Weight. The Allmans ended the show by themselves with a rare Preachin’ Blues encore followed by a quick run through Jessica. The Allman Brothers Band returns tonight to the Beacon for show number seven. Thanks to the picture-perfect Moogis webcast, anyone can follow the action from home.

It was no quick run through Jessica. It was a half hour or so. Drums>Bass and some solo work by Derek and Warren that was incredible.

Man I hope Bonnie shows up at some gigs this summer – Virginia Beach – would love to see you Bonnie with the ABB!
