Last Week’s Sauce: March 15th – 21st

Artist & Title: Les Claypool – Amanitas
Date & Venue: 2009-03-20 – The Rave, Milwaukee WI
Taper & Show Download: Steve B.
Some hilarity ensues at the beginning of this track when someone throws a wad of money (??) onto the stage. Apparently, objects being hurled towards the musicians is a regular occurrence for Les. I’ve selected a track from Claypool’s 2009 release Of Fungi and Foe, which he is currently touring in support of. The band which features Mike Dillon (percussion), Paulo Baldi (drums) and Sam Bass (cello) is on the road for the rest of the month with a variety of supporting acts.

Artist & Title: Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – Goodnight Rose
Date & Venue: 2009-03-20 – The Fox Theater, Atlanta GA
Taper & Show Download: Brian Hadella
For the time being, it seems Ryan Adams has played his last note of music for a while – we’ll see if it sticks. I checked with our resident expert on the band and Wade told me that not only was Goodnight Rose well played last Friday, it was also the last song of the night.

Artist & Title: Tea Leaf Green – Baseball Song
Date & Venue: 2009-03-20 – Odgen Theatre, Denver CO
Taper & Show Download: Chuck Miller
I have selected Baseball Song because: 1) Percussionist Jeff Lane from Outformation (who opened the show) sits-in and 2) 11 days until opening day! TLG next hits a live stage in April with two nights at The Fillmore.

Artist & Title: Will Bernard – Baby Goats
Date & Venue: 2009-03-21 – Roxy Theater, Los Angeles CA
Taper & Show Download: Mikey Jones & Scott Gordon
We have heard nothing but great things about guitarist Will Bernard’s recent shows promoting his late 2008 release Blue Plate Special. Bernard employed an all-star band for the album and also secured the same musicians for this tour, and it features: Andy Hess (bass), John Medeski (keyboards), and Stanton Moore (drums). There are two gigs left with this lineup, tonight in Falls Church VA and tomorrow in NYC.
