Friday Mix Tape: Live From The ’80s

It’s time to get your Frankie Says Relax t-shirts out of the closet as we celebrate the ’80s this week for Friday Mix Tape. If you’ve come to know me at all in the last three years, you know that I’m more of a live music guy than studio so each track in the mix was recorded live. We’ve got six songs from a wide variety of artists and all of ’em are from primo sources.

We start with one of the most catchy tunes of all time – Joe Jackson’s Steppin’ Out live from December 9, 1982 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. Next, we turn to Bruce Hornsby and The Range for a live version of the guitar-driven Western Skyline from September 2, 1986 at NYC’s The Bottom Line and David Gilmour for a tasty solo band take on Comfortably Numb from July 12, 1984 at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena. From there, we turn to the Jerry Garcia Band for a memorable Think from 1989 before Frank Zappa hits us with Heavy Duty Judy. R.E.M. closes things out with an early Can’t Get Here From There from a 1985 Rockpalast broadcast.
