Hall of Fame: And the Nominees Are…

The 2010 nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced and they don’t suck as hard as usual. The twelve nominees are: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, The Hollies and The Stooges. The 500 HOF voters will decide which five bands get inducted into the Hall at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on March 15, 2010.

If we had a vote we’d choose KISS, Genesis, the Chili Peppers, The Stooges and ABBA. Yes…ABBA. You can’t deny the success and long-lasting impact the Swedes had on the music business and even though their music isn’t my jam, they should get in against the likes of LL Cool J. Who would you pick?

  1. I picked The Stooges. Again, I don’t like ABBA but you can’t deny their massive success and influence on the next generation of pop acts. Jimmy Cliff is the man, but does he fit the criteria better than ABBA? Not in my eyes.

  2. “and influence on the next generation of pop acts”

Exactly. If this was the Pop Hall Of Fame or a Billboard Charts museum, they would qualify. But not in the RaRHoF, buddy!

  3. It’s Rock and Roll in name only.

Once you’ve inducted James Brown, BB King, Ricky Nelson, The Supremes, The Jackson 5 and the goddamned Bee Gees you’ve set the precedent. Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.

  4. not to be funny here, really…but isnt’t there a disco hall of fame somewhere in the world? (it would be in Holland or Denmark, I’d guess) I mean seriously? a “Rock-n-Roll” induction ceremony with ABBA and the Stooges together? what’s the world coming to?

  5. “You are yet to be inducted to the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame. Is there any chance that your next album will be titled ‘That’s Bullshit’?”

  6. The Hollies absolutely deserve the honor. Marvellous sound, fine songwriting… and of course, here are the roots of the great Graham Nash.

  7. The Hollies definitely deserve it. Marvellous sound, great songwriting and of course, the roots of the great Graham Nash. They have been overlooked too long.
