Artist & Title: From Good Homes – My Friend Pam
Date & Venue: 2009-11-25 Mercury Lounge, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: Frank D’Auria

Though technically billed under the name Jefferson Township, this was the first time From Good Homes had played live in front of people in 10 years. This blues-rocker-singalong was the opener. They have two more shows on the books, playing under their own name, at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair NJ on December 18th & 19th.

Artist & Title: Guitarness – Little Wing > 3rd Stone From The Sun
Date & Venue: 2009-11-29 The Old Well, Simsbury CT
Taper & Show Download:

Guitarness is Jeff Pevar (guitar, vocals), Scott Murawski (guitar, vocals), Dave Livolsi (bass), and John Peckman (drums). Jeff Pevar’s only future gig on the books is this Friday playing at the NASCAR Awards Banquet at The Wynn in Las Vegas. That’s a nice booking by the folks at NASCAR, I gotta say. Scott Murawski next plays with Max Creek this Friday at Revolution Hall in Troy NY.

Artist & Title: Phish – Golden Age
Date & Venue: 2009-11-28 Times Union Center, Albany NY
Taper & Show Download: Rob Adler & Dave Flaschner

When was the last time Phish debuted such a contemporary cover? (And no, I Kissed A Girl doesn’t count.) Golden Age is off the 2008 TV On The Radio album Dear Science, a fact I’d say maybe 90% of the the attendees at the Times Union Center were not familiar with on Friday when this cover was debuted. ScottyB likened the crowd reaction to Phish’s first performance of Ween’s Roses Are Free in 1998. Phish definitely made it their own, hell the chorus sounds like a Phish song. Phish plays tonight at Madison Square Garden.

Artist & Title: Widespread Panic – Jesus Just Left Chicago
Date & Venue: 2009-11-28 Coliseum, North Charleston, SC
Taper & Show Download: Z-Man

Continuing the storyline from yesterday’s Cover Wars, I can’t quite shake how bizarre it is that Widespread Panic not only debuted their own cover of On Your Way Down a day after Phish played it for the first time in six years, but they also debuted this ZZ Top cover – another Phish staple. As far as performance goes, I think John Bell and the rest of the guys sound much better on this one than they do for On Your Way Down. Widespread Panic next plays December 30th & 31st at the Philips Arena in Atlanta.

Nice. As much as I hate WSP, it would be interesting to see them collaborate sometime. I think a full band switch would be cool. WSP>PHISH>WSP or vice versa.

thanks for the post. Dear Science, was my favorite album of 2008. As soon as I saw the set list, I’ve been wanting to hear their Golden Age. Not a one of em can match Tunde on vocals but they deff made this song their own!
