What’s great about tribute bands is that they not only play the hits, but they play deeper cuts such as when Pink Floyd cover act The Machine performed Matilda Mother and Keep Talking. The Machine will be playing The Wall in its entirety Friday at The Norva in Norfolk and Saturday at The National in Richmond.

Panda Bear has been debuting a whole bunch of new material that will probably be on his new album that will most likely be titled Tomboy. You can watch video of some of the new tunes below, but the audio I have selected is Panda Bear performing Daily Routine from Merriweather Post Pavilion. In case you didn’t know, Panda Bear is one of the members of Animal Collective.

Artist & Title: Reid Genauer – Far From Yourself
Date & Venue: 2010-01-14 Joe’s Pub, New York NY
Taper & Show Download: Mike Salvo
Before his New Year’s Eve show, Reid posted a note to his message board asking for requests and said that Far From Yourself (a Strangefolk song from the album Lore) was requested online and he heard it in person from a couple of folks. On New Year’s, he said he hadn’t played it in a while (though it looks like he played it a few months earlier) and that he might mess up the words. It was nice to hear on tape, but the crowd was pretty chatty.
Well it looks like the song is back in his head because it showed up again last week in NYC at a Reid Solo show. And it’s a very respectful and quiet crowd. Once again, the song was introduced with some banter. Listen to it below. Reid brings his solo acoustic act to Massachusetts for two shows in the beginning of February.

Typing out the entire song names up there just didn’t look right, so here is the translation: Der Bluten Kat > Muscle Shoals Nitty Gritty > Der Bluten Kat. That’s a Herbie Mann instrumental tune sandwiched inside of one of UM’s oldest tunes – a great segment of music that clocks in at over 27 minutes. UM plays Utah tonight before heading to Colorado for two shows (and another S2 event) this weekend.
