Gov’t Mule debuted this cover on December 14th, 1995 at Savannah’s in Burlington, VT. When performed live by Mule, Goin’ Out West frequently contains teases of Get It On (Bang A Gong) by T. Rex.

Queens of the Stone Age released this cover on their 2007 single Sick, Sick, Sick which appears on the album Era Vulgaris.

Widespread Panic was just about a month behind Gov’t Mule with this cover as they first performed Goin’ Out West on January 20th, 1996 at the Fox Theater in Boulder, CO. The tune has stayed in the rotation over the past 14 years with the biggest gap between shows sitting at 22.
