Brian Wilson, Animal Collective, Flying Lotus Lead LEVITATION Initial Lineup

The annual psychedelic gathering Levitation has announced the first nine artists on the lineup for the ninth annual festival taking place at Carson Creek Ranch the weekend of April 29-May 1, 2016. Weekend passes, deluxe passes, camping passes, and camping rentals are now available at http://levitation-austin.com.

The 2016 Levitation lineup includes the legendary Brian Wilson performing his 1966 masterpiece “Pet Sounds,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of this massively influential album with special guest Al Jardine.

Also announced as part of this lineup preview are one of the most acclaimed experimental bands of the past two decades, Animal Collective, along with psychedelic producer and electronic vanguard Flying Lotus, who will bring an incredible multimedia experience to the festival. Festival mainstays The Brian Jonestown Massacre will return for the 3rd year, bringing new material from their upcoming LP.

Lee Scratch Perry, one of the most creative and innovative artists of the past 50 years, will bring the original Black Ark sound to Levitation, joined by stoner-metal titans Sleep and garage rock guitar hero Ty Segall, following his appearance at last year’s festival with power trio Fuzz. Also on tap are Canadian heavyweights Black Mountain and the UK upstarts Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, who fittingly, were recently chosen by Black Sabbath as their tour support.

“This lineup preview will give people an idea of the eclectic group of artists we’ll be bringing to Levitation in 2016. As always, we’re checking off our ever-expanding wish list, bringing our favorite artists to Austin. We’re honored to present Brian Wilson, one of the greatest musicians of all time, and the full lineup release will bring more surprises and fan favorites,” says Rob Fitzpatrick, co-founder and booker of Levitation. “For our 9th annual festival we’ll once again be working with our production partners at Transmission Events, working to bring the best festival experience yet to Carson Creek Ranch.”

Stay tuned for the full festival lineup to be released this winter. Travellers should get in town early for the kick-off parties held Thursday, April 28th in downtown Austin. Lineups, tickets and info for those events will be announced closer to the festival.

ABOUT LEVITATION & THE REVERBERATION APPRECIATION SOCIETY

LEVITATION (formerly Austin Psych Fest) is a music festival that was founded in 2008 by The Reverberation Appreciation Society, who continue to organize and curate the festival. Inspired by the creative explosion of the 1960s and the music and art that came out of that period, as well as by festivals such as ATP and Primavera Sound, they set out to create their vision of a music festival, aiming to present innovative and captivating musicians and legends from the past, present and future.

Over the years, this independent festival has grown from a small word-of-mouth event to an internationally acclaimed, full weekend event that attracts attendees from all over the world. In 2015 the festival was renamed LEVITATION in honor of Austin’s legendary psychedelic rock godfathers The 13th Floor Elevators.

The Reverberation Appreciation Society is a creative collective comprised of Rob Fitzpatrick, Oswald James, and Christian Bland and Alex Maas of The Black Angels. In addition to the festival in Austin, the group has branched out into other cities beginning in 2013 with Levitation France and in 2015 with Levitation Vancouver and Levitation Chicago. The group also runs a record label and presents events at Austin’s SXSW, The Netherlands’ Le Guess Who, NYC’s CMJ and NRMAL in Mexico City.
