VIDEO PREMIERE: Applewood Road (Emily Barker, Amber Rubarth and Amy Speace) Play In-Studio “Bring The Car Round”

Applewood Road, a folk trio comprised of Emily Barker, Amber Rubarth and Amy Speace, is serendipity at its most pure definition. The three celebrated songwriters will release their self-titled debut on Feb. 12, 2016, on digital and CD formats, as well as on 180-gram vinyl.

In September 2014, the three women met at a café in East Nashville, while Barker was visiting from the UK. By the next morning they had put the finishing touches to their first song, “Applewood Road,” which grew into a 13-song collection that they recorded at Nashville’s Welcome to 1979 Studios. Once recorded, the tapes were assembled at Applewood Road’s London label, Gearbox Records, using their exclusive high-end mastering suite. The lacquers were cut in-house with a Haeco lathe and mastered through vintage analogue outboard.

Recorded to two-track tape with minimal accompaniment from some of Nashville’s finest session players, including Aaron Lee Tasjan, Josh Day, Fats Kaplin, Jabe Beyer, and Telisha Williams, the album’s simple production allows the harmonies of the three women to shine amongst sparse arrangements.

Glide Magazine is excited to present an inside look at the studio sessions with our exclusive premiere of Applewood Road’s studio video for “Bring the Car Round”.

Reflecting on the session, Emily Barker says, “We recorded this song live to tape on the fourth and final day in the all-analogue studio, Welcome to 1979. We had the pleasure of working with some of Nashville’s finest musicians; Josh Day on percussion and Telisha Williams on double bass. I wrote this song back in Bridgetown, Western Australia, my home-town. Bushfires were out of control that summer and raging across the whole of the South West region. It was a frightening time to say the least, but I was struck by the positivity of the locals, how they rallied together to help one another.”
