Bluegrass Legend/Pioneer Ralph Stanley Dies at 89

Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley who experienced a huge resurgence in popularity following the success of the the 2000 movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” for which he helped score, died Thursday at the age of 89.He was part of the first generation of bluegrass musicians and was inducted into both the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor and the Grand Ole Opry. Stanley was a virtuoso clawhammer banjoist and founder of the groundbreaking band the Clinch Mountain Boys — “went peacefully in his sleep due to a long, horrible battle with skin cancer,” his grandson Nathan Stanley, wrote on his website late Thursday.
