Justin Townes Earle Arrested Following Indianapolis Show

Justin Townes Earle had a bad, bad time at Indianapolis’ Radio Radio last Thursday, which resulted in the singer-songwriter being arrested and sent off to jail.

After his Sept. 16 gig Earle was charged with battery, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement, according to the official website for the city of Indianapolis and Marion County.

Earle, who is the son of singer-songwriter Steve Earle, was released after posting $150 bond.

According to MyOldKentuckyBlog.com the singer “insulted (and assaulted) the venue owners and staff, the sold-out audience, and local law enforcement.”

After a fan shouted out “Freebird,” Earle reportedly told him, “F**k ‘Freebird’, I f**king hate Lynard Skynard,” according to fan reports on SavingCountryMusic.com. Another fan told the singer to take off his shirt and so he retorted that the crowd member should “f**kin’ take off your shirt.” A fan apparently took off his shirt and thew it on stage, where it landed on Earle’s guitar. The singer responded by dropping another F-bomb, saying “F**k you.”

Earle closed the show with the tune “Walk Out” and left the stage without an encore. Back at his dressing room, Earle said goodbye to the venue by smashing a few items and causing over $200 worth of property damage.

MyOldKentuckyBlog.com reports that the singer assaulted Radio Radio’s owner and “reportedly closed-fist punching the owner’s daughter” after being told the $200 in damages would come out of his pay.

The singer was physically removed from the venue and held until police arrived. Authorities were forced to pin Earle to the ground to handcuff him after he resisted arrest.

Earle’s adventure in Indianapolis caused the singer to miss a radio show. On Friday he tweeted, “Sorry for missing the radio Louisville. I was in jail! We will be making the show at headliners though. Free again!!!!"
