Country Western Legend Glen Campbell Dies at 81

Glen Campbell, the iconic country western artist known by such songs as “Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston” and “Rhinestone Cowboy,” died today at 81. Campbell had been fighting his well-documented battle with Alzheimer’s Disease which had him out on a lengthy farewell tour over the course of 2011 and 2012 and saw his farewell album Adios recently released.

The singer’s family has issued a statement that reads, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.”
