Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real kicked off night two or their San Francisco run at Great American Music Hall in true collaboration style with Bob Weir joining them to open their set on April 24th. Nelson recently joined Weir across the Golden Gate at Weir’s Sweetwater Music Hall in Marin for the late John Perry Barlow’s memorial show.\ Nelson handled vocal duties on “Althea”, while Weir took over for “West LA Fadeaway” from the Grateful Dead catalog. Weir also fronted a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm” which featured some nice call and answer riffs from Nelson and Weir. In typical Weir fashion, he cruised off stage just before the final notes, unannounced, to the usual bewildered looks from his hosts.
