VIDEO PREMIERE: Bernhoft & The Fashion Bruises Shine With Feel-Good Soul Tune “Lookalike”

The human touch makes a noticeable difference. Listeners invariably respond to that tactile bond between the musician and the music. To put it simply in the parlance of our times, you know when it’s real…

GRAMMY® Award-nominated Norwegian singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Jarle Bernhoft emphasizes this personal connection on his fourth full-length offering and first as Bernoft & The Fashion Bruises—the aptly titled Humanoid. Recorded as a full band, the record unlocks a soulful spirit buoyed by simmering R&B grooves and powerful pop hooks. In assembling this bold, bright, and brilliant body of work, the artist surveyed the landscape and made a conscious decision to go against the grain.

Joined by The Fashion Bruises, the process for Humanoid commenced in old school fashion. Rather than rush into the studio, they spent time woodshedding in the rehearsal room. The shared chemistry flourished. They recorded at Oslo Klang in Norway for only two weeks with Bernhoft behind the board in the producer’s chair as his infant son crawled around the space.

Today Glide is excited to premiere the new music video for “Lookalike”, one of the standout tracks on Humanoid. Filmed live at Oslo Konserhus, the video captures the chemistry of the band members and the magnetic stage presence of Jarle Bernhoft. The song showcases the band’s unique style of blue-eyed soul, with Bernhoft bringing to mind a kind of European John Mayer. The singer isn’t afraid to hit those high notes as he swoons over the delight of finding love. There is a light humor to the tune, and the band seems to be having fun as they keep an in-the-pocket groove going strong to accompany the feel-good and undeniably catchy lyrics and vocals. “Lookalike” is definitely lighter fare focused on little more than making the listener feel warm and happy, and this is certainly not a bad thing considering the current social and political climate we all have to deal with every day. Maybe this tune is the medicine we all need a little more of right now.

Describing the song in his own words, Jarle Bernhoft reinforces that idea:

“‘Lookalike’ is a little blast of fall sunshine and hot sprinkled sand on your bare feet, a few minutes of carefree social media-less bliss, and a silly love song on top. As Paul McCartney said, ‘what’s wrong with that?'”

Bernoft & The Fashion Bruises kick off the second leg of their U.S. tour at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston, TX on December 5. For a full list of tour dates and more music visit bernhoft.org.
