Green River Festival Announces First Artists: First Aid Kit, Wood Brothers, The Devil Makes Three, Rhiannon Giddens, Tyler Childers

The Green River Festival is pleased to announce that 2019’s artists will include First Aid Kit, The Wood Brothers, The Devil Makes Three, Rhiannon Giddens, and Tyler ChildersMore bands will be announced in the coming weeks.

First Aid Kit: A Swedish indie folk duo with a devoted international following, First Aid Kit blend the bright vocal harmonies and pastoral, contemplative songwriting of sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg. 2014’s Stay Gold, their first album on major-label Columbia, hit number one in Sweden and Norway, and charted in the Top 25 in several European countries, the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Stay Gold went on to win Album of the Year at Sweden’s Grammis.

The Wood Brothers: A GRAMMY nominated roots music trio featuring brothers Chris and Oliver Wood, along with multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix, the Wood Brothers bring a distinctive flair to their union of folk, blues, gospel, and jazz. For their sixth outing, the Wood Brothers took a looser approach to recording, working slowly at a number of different studios and experimenting a bit more with their formula. The resulting One Drop of Truth was released in early 2018.

The Devil Makes Three: The Devil Makes Three are not your normal alt-country band. For as much as they remain rooted in troubadour traditions of wandering folk, Delta blues, whiskey-soaked ragtime, and reckless rock ‘n’ roll, the band nods to the revolutionary unrest of author James Baldwin, the no-holds barred disillusionment of Ernest Hemingway, and Southern Gothic malaise of Flannery O’Connor.

Rhiannon Giddens: Recipient of a 2017 MacArthur Genius Grant, singer and multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens is best known as the front woman of African-American string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops, who earned a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2010. She began gaining recognition as a solo artist when she stole the show at the T Bone Burnett– produced Another Day, Another Time concert at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013. Giddens’ recent televised performances include The Late Show, Austin City Limits, Later…with Jools Holland, and both CBS Saturday and Sunday Morning. She performed for President Obama and the First Lady on a White House Tribute to Gospel, along with Aretha Franklin and Emmylou Harris.

Tyler Childers: Hailing from the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky, Tyler Childers is part of a wave of 2010s Americana artists who prize authenticity both in their songs and sound. Sonically, Childers borrows heavily from the weathered, ornery progressive country records of the ’70s, a comparison brought into sharp relief on his second album, 2017’s formidable debut Purgatory, which was produced by the acclaimed Americana rocker Sturgill Simpson.
