Broadway Performer Eden Espinosa Takes Songwriter Leap With ‘Revelation’ (ALBUM REVIEW)

Once you are known for one type of musical style, it’s very difficult to differentiate yourself. An artist essentially has to completely reinvent their image, while attempting to stay true to their identity. It’s not an easy task. This is an art that Eden Espinosa perfected with her new album Revelation.

Espinosa has played many iconic roles on the stage in plays like Wicked and Rent, yet Revelation finds her in an entirely new role: the songwriter. She co-wrote eight out of the album’s ten tracks. Mixed with contemporary pop arrangements, Espinosa proves that she is a natural at crafting a lyric.

The album begins with the encroaching “Deadly Sin,” which quickly sets the stage for each track that follows. “Deadly Sin” talks of a deadly situation to your identity and worth. A few tracks down, Espinosa quickly follows this up with the first song she wrote, “Master of My Life.” This steady ballad holds many truths as Espinosa’s voice escalates into an electric epiphany.

With each song, Espinosa discovers more intricacies of her self-worth, while laying a foundation for barriers that lay ahead. In the album’s first single, “Bed for 2,” she reveals that she’s not strong enough to say the words that must be told in a dwindling relationship. While in the songs “Ready” and “Keep On,” Espinosa speaks of her inner strength to consistently keep moving and to justify a path forward.

Revelation is a journey of heartache and triumph that leads to inner peace and acceptance. Espinosa takes on her new role as a solo songstress and songwriter effortlessly. Saying she is versatile is an understatement. Instead of a multi-instrumentalist, Espinosa is a multi-vocalist that will find her authenticity in any song, while bringing listeners along to discover their own truths.
