What a difference a week makes…Last Sunday, eight NFL teams thought they had a realistic chance to win the Super Bowl, Suzanne Somers still owned a fire-free Malibu beach house and Jack Bauer sat in a Chinese prison. Today, not so much.

But strangely, our precious world of live music sat fairly idle. Here’s just a sample what you may or may not have missed ’round the Hidden Track soda fountain:
- moe. announced a solid initial lineup for its annual Snoe.down festival on the site of the 1980 Winter Olympics. Do you believe in heady miracles? Herb Brooks always preached, “Kick down to get down”
- Van Halen earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, setting up months of swirling rumors about potential reunion plans with Sammy and/or D.L. Roth — let the teased-hair drama begin
- We branched out a little, scanning the indie and pop scenes: Austinist scooped SXSW lineup and Paula Abdul couldn’t handle her shit
- Our man Ted Wong shot a sick gallery of Tea Leaf Green photos from the 12/28 Mexicali Blues show, which was awesome to quite awesome
- Acoustic guitarists abound: Dave Matthews must find the chops to play a virtuoso on an upcoming episode of House, while we introduced many of you to the female John Bell, Jesse Sykes
- Like clockwork, our weekly departments continued to take up valuable blog space: The B List catalogued the best double-lead guitar tunes, Grousing The Aisles delivered downloads from current and future legends, Pullin’ ‘Tubes provided an Epic-San batch of videos you should watch, and Scotty B served up heaping helpfuls of Hors d’Oeuvres and Leftovers
For those of you that have the day off, enjoy it while I punch the clock…

The Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, er fame, inducts Van Halen WITH Hagar, but WITHOUT Cherone? Someobody once said that VH with Roth was Coke–and American original. With Hagar, a light frothy subsitute, like Pepsi. And with Cherone, well . . . RC Cola. Still, Hagar contributed nothing to the band other than stupid lyrics, dumb riffs, and a big love for awful synths.
How can anyone take the RNR Hall seriously when it kept Black Sabbath out longer than Tom Petty and Bob Seger?

I don’t think anyone can truly disagree with you on that point…boy, Seger has really made a great living off singing about how much better things were back in the day. He’s a nostalgia act within a nostalgia act.
