SONG PREMIERE: Ley Line Use Worldly Folk Harmonies to Spread Positivity on “Slow Down”

Four voices coalesce, rooted in rhythm. Raised on the North American traditions of blues, folk, and soul and inspired by their world travels, the four women of Ley Line transcend genres and languages. Ley Line creates a global soundscape; blending influences from Brazil, Latin America and West Africa. Dynamic harmonies run like a current through textures of stand up bass, guitar, ukulele and world percussion. With strong ties to world folklore traditions, Ley Line’s multilingual compositions evoke the beauty of the human experience through our connection to nature and each other.

Ley Line is the musical merging of two duos. Austinites Kate Robberson and Emilie Basez met twin sisters Madeleine and Lydia Froncek at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2013. Since reuniting in Austin in 2016, Ley Line has been weaving together their individual journeys into a collective vision to unite audiences around the world. Their eclectic music explores balance and harmony between the unique perspectives of the four songwriters and instrumentalists. Their highly anticipated sophomore album, We Saw Blue is scheduled for release in the summer of 2020 with a vinyl pressing and an accompanied visual album comprised of unique footage from their 2017 Brazilian trip.

As a reaction to our current global crisis, the group is releasing a new single called “Slow Down,” which we are excited to premiere on Glide ahead of its official release on April 24th. Showcasing the quartet’s unique and soothing vocals and floating, airy harmonies with the comforting soundtrack of a ukulele, the song offers musical escapism with its message of folk. Fusing elements of jazz and folk, the song is intimate and relaxing with a chorus that reminds us to step back and savor the beauty of life. It may feel like the world is ending, but there is a cycle to life and “Slow Down” is musical proof that we can persevere.

The group describes the inspiration behind the song:

“Our world is changing so quickly and these past few weeks have been a rollercoaster. We thought that now, more than ever, we’d like to send out a message of positivity to the world. One that encourages us to revel in the beauty of spring, to focus on loving ourselves, and to remember the natural cycles of life. We’ve been working on our album We Saw Blue for the past few years and decided to put this song on the B-side, as one of our folkier stripped down tunes. We weren’t planning on releasing ‘Slow Down’ as a single, but found it to be all too relevant to the current state of the world.”
