SONG PREMIERE: On Debut Single “Give What You Take,” Matthew Alec and The Soul Electric Make Good On The Groove

Cleveland, OH jazz-fusion group Matthew Alec and The Soul Electric have got a rhythmic step in the down and dirty direction with some legit golden era funk that grabs the grooves of Tower of Power and snazzy sensibilities of The Greyboy Allstars.

Led by saxophonist Matthew Alec, the six-piece ensemble boasts a roster of talented and accomplished musicians with very diverse backgrounds that came together with the goal of combining the technical artistry of jazz with all the hooks associated with pop music. Once this pandemic ends, clearly there will be a resurgence of rhythmically driven jazz, and Matthew Alec and The Soul Electric will surely be a name on many a festival lineup.

Glide just got hold of their debut single “Give What You Take,” to premiere from their upcoming album Cleveland Time below…

“With ‘Give What You Take’ I set out to create something that was really fun and catchy, but I was still trying to capture the high level of musicianship that makes jazz so great. I had the hook written a couple of years ago, but I knew it needed something else… so I wrote the shout chorus section in the shower one day before a rehearsal! I thought it added just the element it needed to make the tune come to life,” says Alec about the debut track.
