Joseph of Mercury holds the rare ability to reach and explore, both forward and back through time. Sharing an honest musical anthology of tragic loss, haunting love, crushed dreams, and broken bodies. A forever love drunk crooner, addicted to the process of forming sound from silence, feeling & a passing vision. Joseph of Mercury continues on as the new decade beckons for more, with lifetimes to share.
With a lush presentation, “Pretty Blonde Boy” (below) is a decorated “emo on chocolate” number that puts vocals and new-wave nuances upfront. The song describes the passing of Joseph’s close friends Dakota Luke Kavanaugh and Dmytro Stefaniv, who both fell terribly to “senseless and tragic spiral of prescription pain meds and heroin, combined with fentanyl.’ ‘Pretty Blond Boy” is a courageous proclamation, a hauntingly beautiful synth-pop with nods to Morrissey and Future Islands.
“They were “both taken too young and barely years apart. If there is a word beyond ‘brother’ then that’s what they were. Love just wasn’t enough to balance out all that they carried on their shoulders. Their losses were devastating, breaking me in a way that I’m not sure will ever heal. It was in such eerie succession,” Joseph says in regards to the inspiration behind “Pretty Blond Boy.”
