LISTEN: New Orleans’ Jank Setup Deliver Full Bodied Funk Fusion On “Prince of Something”

Emerging from Tulane and Loyola Universities’ bustling music scene, funk-fusion group Jank Setup is proud to call New Orleans home. After years of honing their skills at house parties and small neighborhood venues, the band has transitioned to playing sold-out shows with nationally recognized acts such as Galactic, Stoop Kids, and Detroit Swindle.

Sink into Jank Setup’s new funky single “Prince of Something” that rekindles a Motown meets NOLA righteous vibe. Vocals strut upfront surrounded by blazing horns, deep docket grooves, and tight guitar pacing with a fierce, full-bodied fusion that honors the get-down lineage of Stevie Wonder to Jamiroquai.

After the pandemic canceled our back-to-back debut tours, we switched gears into songwriting mode. This was the first good song we came up with in those sessions, and it really set a high bar for us. ‘Prince of Something’ is only a small taste of what’s to come on the album, so keep your eyes and ears open,” says the band.
