Izo FitzRoy exploded onto the scene in 2017 with her debut LP ‘Skyline’, the album incorporating a stunning fusion of styles spanning gospel, funk, and soul as Izo’s raw bluesy tone and direct lyricism took center stage. Her second album ‘How The Mighty Fall’ built further on the soul and gospel foundations of her debut. Recorded between Paris, London, and Sheffield, it saw her move up a gear from a new voice on the scene to magazine cover star.
Powerful vocals fill the sonic spectrum immediately on the fly new single, “Everybody Knows This Ain’t Right” from Izo FitzRoy. Ranging from low vibrato to falsetto joy, FitzRoy is delicate though robust in her vocal attack. Filled with colorful organ touchings and a down and dirty backbeat, “Everybody Knows This Ain’t Right” is decorated in Daptone-styled throwback soul.
“Everybody Knows This Ain’t Right” was written last year with music collaborator and soul enthusiast Erik Janson, between London and LA. We took inspiration from old Bill Withers records to write about the social unrest in both the US and UK happening in 2019,” says FitzRoy.
