Alex Bloom grew up with pop and rock standards, studying music in college. Today his focus is putting his education to use, exploring what it means to be a singer-songwriter in the 21st century. Bloom prefers to forgo categorization and sticks to what feels authentic. “My goal with all the music I release is to keep exploring a vast array of my influences. Songs on the same album can sound vastly different from each other, because I try not to filter out ideas based on genre lines.”
Check out Bloom’s latest titled “Bleary,” where an urban soundscape is supported by a vicious backbeat that elicits the gritty feeling of riding the NYC subway; complete with all the sights and sounds that come with bustling city existence. Intricate instrumental arrangement and color in the production, combined with Bloom’s haunting melodic output make “Bleary” a tragically romantic listen.
