LISTEN: Brett Newski Tackles Seasonal Depression on Rager “Seek Asylum From Myself”

2021-10-5 Brett Newski, Hamburg

Brett Newski is an alternative songwriter, illustrator and podcaster based in Milwaukee, WI. Coming off recent collaborations with Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws, Barenaked Ladies co-founder Steven Page, and Brian Vander Ark of the Verve Pipe, 90’s influenced alt-rock outfit BRETT NEWSKI & the No Tomorrow have launched eight new tracks which are a soundtrack to his book titled “It’s Hard to be a Person: Defeating Anxiety Surviving the World, and Having More Fun.”

“Seek Asylum From Myself” is the latest release from Newski, and it is a burner. Painfully self-aware, Newski delivers with a scathing attitude and a silver tongue with near-perfect garage rock sensibilities. Although the track expresses inner struggles, the raw instrumentation is the perfect vessel for Newski to unload on and the result is a cathartic release.

“Seasonal depression weighs a ton. Written on a napkin in my 02′ Toyota amply named “Dennis” (after my grandpa Dennis), “Seek Asylum from Myself” dives into the battles in one’s own head and finding the balance between medication and just riding out the storm,” describes Newski.
