LISTEN: On “Health Class Field Trip,” Fjord Mustang Shares Colorful Musical Panorama

Fjord Mustang is an indie band from Toronto consisting of Vick Egan (vocals), Devon Pelley (guitar), and Nathan Smofsky (bass, guitar) Old high school friends, they formed the project in 2020 just before the pandemic hit., which influenced their writing process as they worked collaboratively from their separate homes.

On “Health Class Field Trip,” a breezy yet commanding track from Fjord Mustang, the trio drops crafty throwback lo-fi indie. Bolstered by a throbbing rhythm section and unfolding into a colorful panorama, “Health Class Field Trip” makes for a colorful statement reminiscent of Liz Phair and Courtney Barnett.

This a song written early on in quarantine when Vick was single and had recently come out as Queer. She wrote the lyrics when daydreaming and imagining a trip away with a crush for a much needed refresh. It is light hearted and we hope it makes people feel good when they hear it.  With abundant innuendos and cheeky attitude, this song is a fun lighthearted and catchy Indie Pop-Rock hit.”
