Three songs coming at you at once as a collection is a rarity these days, but when it involves three proficient voices that are not only moodsetters but skillful songsmiths who have played up and down the volume pendulum their entire musical careers. This endeavor is led by Kramies. creator of dreamy folklore, crossing the boundaries between eerie sceneries and fairytale-laden myths. Kramies is best known for his work with producers Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, Jerry Becker of Train, and Todd Tobias of Guided by Voices.
While working on his new 2022 EP with Jason Lytle of Grandaddy and Tyler Ramsey formerly of Band of Horses, Kramies asked Jason and Tyler if they would like to do a split single together with the idea that all three songwriters would write and record a bare-bone minimally tracked song. They all agreed and Over and Outsider was born, Jason at his studio in California, Tyler from his studio in North Carolina and Kramies in Nashville at The Fleetwood Shack Studio.
Glide is premiering the three songs that make up the Over and Outsider batch: ” Jason Lytle “Drop that Hero,” Kramies “She’s Low Tide” and Tyler Ramsey “Arrow to Bow”. The three songs are officially released on January, 14th, but we have the privilege of sharing their gracious voice-centric lo-fi indie. Each stark and fragile song paints a unique mood of the day-to-day we don’t have our own words for, yet while constructed with these recognizable voices, we have a template set for a true bigger project in line.
“Some days I can feel pretty down and at odds with everything. Other days I can feel pretty untouchable and heroic. This song is about getting dumped during a period of feeling untouchable and heroic. I think it fits nicely with this small batch of songs,” says Lytle.
“I met Kramies in Colorado a while back when Carl Broemel and I were on a duo tour driving across the country. He opened a show we did in Denver and was such a sweetheart and we stayed in touch. I think he has a gold heart. When he reached out about this split single project I was in the process of writing a bunch of new songs for a new album. This one is made up of blurry images of touring and travel and questioning what is worth giving your time to. Happy I was able to be a part of this project with Kramies and Jason who I love and admire as well,” adds Ramsey.
