I Am Strikes is the brainchild of Kelly Rosenthal. At the age of 15, she began teaching herself to play the guitar. “I didn’t know anything about it,” she says. “My family didn’t play. My friends didn’t play. I didn’t grow up around much music at all. I was kind of just sick of being a teenager and finally gave myself a valid excuse to lock myself in my room.”
The video for “Paper Tiger” offers as good a description as any for the unbridled latest single from LA’s I Am Strikes. Slick yet authentic, “Paper Tiger” is garage rock sipping an IPA rather than chugging a PBR. A four-on-the-floor dance beat blends seamlessly with overdriven riffs, octave warping guitar solos, and a controlled but raw vocal delivery to cap off an exciting offering of what’s to come in 2022.
“If I need to say it, I sing it,” says Rosenthal when asked what motivated her to start the project. “I don’t really believe in censorship. I think unhappiness is a byproduct of keeping quiet.’
