Big Thief invites us all to band practice with an intimate living room performance of “Certainty” on The Late Show with James Corden.
If you’ve tuned in to any independent radio stations since January, chances are pretty high you’ve heard the instantly recognizable, muted drum roll introduction to Big Thief’s “Certainty”. One of the first singles off their latest twenty-song double LP “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You”, the song encapsulates the cozy, “sitting in the room with the band while they record” feeling that permeates the album.
Big Thief is about as close-knit as a band gets, and it’s evident in the performance as Lenker and company swamp smiles and goofy faces while singing the closest thing to blood harmonies that close friends can get. The guitar tones are clean and the mix is raw as the band invites us in to see what hanging out with them for an afternoon in what looks to be an old farmhouse would be like.
“My certainty is wild, weaving”, Lenker sings on the chorus, which basically sums up in a way a Big Thief performance. Exciting and gutsy performances executed with precision and honesty. Catch them as their tour continues through America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
