WATCH: IDLES Serve Up Energetic Set On ‘From The Basement’

British rock band IDLES were the latest band to feature on the hit YouTube series From The Basement. The hardcore band kicked off the new season today (6/1) by performing a melody of tracks from their 2021 album CRAWLER. The intimate performance ran for about 30 minutes and featured 7 tracks performed by the full band including a muted saxophone solo during their song “Meds”.

They brought the intense energy of CRAWLER to life here, the raspy vocals of bandleader Joe Talbot cut through the distortion of the live instrumentation. Since their debut in 2017, IDLES has been releasing hardcore Rock and Roll records at a consistent pace. Recording and releasing four albums in total, the band has gained a cult following due to Talbot’s menacing lyrics mixing well with their rough-around-the-edges sonics.

From The Basement started over in the U.K. in 2006 by Nigel Goodrich and Dilly Gent. The idea was to give artists a free space to express themselves through a live performance without being bogged down by the usual semantics that comes with playing a late-night show. Since moving their show to Youtube last year, From The Basement has hosted the likes of Radiohead, Sonic Youth, and PJ Harvey. This season IDLES will be followed up with performances by Sons of Kemet, Warpaint, Caribou, and more.
