Wake up and smell the melodies, we have another fantastic new music Friday on our hands. Nothing says autumn like a week of brand-new music that evokes the feeling of seeing that first tree start to lose its leaves. This Friday, we have the best list of October so far. Everything from criminally smooth jazz to thrashing post-punk is represented here today. Some new faces, some familiar ones, and regardless they made it on this list for a reason. Try something new and maybe you’ll find the perfect song to send you into the weekend.

Check out Glide’s picks for the best new music of the week below.

Moon Walker – “Them”

Apocalypticism

The pandemic project turned prolific fuzzy rocker Moon Walker is back with his third album in three years, and it’s his best yet. Apocalypticism is here to soundtrack your concerns as the artist pens skeptical poetry and sets it to beautiful chaos. “Them” is the most potent of the bunch, acrobatic vocals drive the tone of the track as the chugging arrangement is allowed to shapeshift with a stellar bridge.

Parcels – “Iknowhowyoufeel – from Le Palace, Paris”

Live Vol. 2

Fans of the Australian indie five-piece will already be familiar with Parcels’ first live album, but this is not that. Live Vol. 2 has the band putting their love of European dance music at the center as the band puts deep house music to their soaring vocals. “Iknowhowyoufeel” features cascading gospel keys over rhythmic hand claps and gut-punching drum patterns as the vocalist glides over the concoction of influences.

Dylan LeBlanc – “Dust”

Coyote

Over a decade into the game, Dylan LeBlanc continues to build his already stellar discography with the intimate Coyote. The 13-song outing features twinkling acoustics and LeBlanc’s signature fireside chat-style lyrics with “Dust” containing enough passion and artistry to go around. A baritone LeBlanc sounds right at home over an almost psychedelic folk style of musicianship for the perfect track to get lost in, and that’s just one song, Coyote is filled with gorgeous moments like this.

Duff McKagan – “Just Another Shakedown”

Lighthouse

The gift of longevity is not lost on Duff McKagan and he is taking full advantage of the creative freedom his legendary status has earned him. Lighthouse 11 compositions from McKagan, all carrying a different purpose with juxtaposing tones that make the album feel alive. “Just Another Shakedown” is the energetic deep cut that will hopefully get the attention it deserves now that Lighthouse is out in full. The track features a neck-breaking drum pattern with a fiery guitar section to tie everything together as McKagan’s vocals double the intensity of the electric arrangement.

Israel Nash – “Going Back”

Ozarker

Israel Nash has made a career bridging country tropes to genres like psychedelic folk and hard rock, creating a unique sound all to his own. Ozarker has the artist taking his signature fusion to the next level with larger-than-life instrumentals that allow Nash’s vocals to frolic freely. “Going Back” feels like the most demanding of the bunch, a simple intro explodes into a stadium-sized arrangement that is the perfect playground for Nash’s passionate songwriting.

Glen Hansard – “Between Us There Is Music”

All That Was East Is West of Me Now

The ever-evolving and constantly fascinating Glen Hansard has returned with a brand new LP and it is as stirring and awe-inspiring as we hoped. All That Was East Is West of Me Now is exactly what the name implies, expertly crafted instrumentals act as a canvas for Hansard’s abstract poetry with “Between Us There Is Music” sticking out as an early favorite. The track plays on silent ambiance as much as it does Hansard’s spoken word melodies for a moving ballad lined with sentimental poetry.

Jamie Wyatt – “Back to the Country”

Feel Good

Every single from the upcoming Jamie Wyatt LP has gotten better with its latest offering continuing to build anticipation. Feel Good is set to be released on November 3 via New West Records and “Back to the Country” is its latest infectious single. A sparse arrangement allows the song’s verses to feel alive while a searing bridge adds the perfect amount of edge to this danceable americana outing.

Sierra Ferrell – “Fox Hunt”

Single

Coming off one hell of 2023, collaborating with some of the biggest names in music, Sierra Ferrell is back to take the spotlight for herself. “Fox Hunt” is the undeniably infectious troubadour-style single that allows Ferrell’s twangy vocals and sky-high falsettos to take charge of the track. Her playing has never sounded better and her vocals have never been so confident as her artistry continues to reach new heights with every release.

Danny Brown – “Tantor”

Quaranta

This upcoming Danny Brown album has been teased by the artist for years and it is finally time for Quaranta to take over. Initially finished in the pandemic, Brown is getting ready to release the most anticipated album of his career and the first single already proves it is worth the wait. “Tantor” features a fiery guitar sample that almost matches the passionate energy of Brown’s vocals as the artist pieces together slick rhyme schemes for an attention-demanding single. Quaranta is set to be released on November 17 via Warp Records.

Mannequin Pussy – “I Don’t Know You”

I Got Heaven

While Philadelphia’s Mannequin Pussy isn’t set to release their new album until March 1, 2024, every single we’ve received is making that date feel all the more close. I Got Heaven will be the band’s first full-length since 2019 and its latest single, “I Don’t Know You”, proves the band has something special planned. The more tame of the two singles, “I Don’t Know You” has the band creating a distorted wall of sound that allows the personal lyrics of the track to shine for a one-two punch of punk bliss.

IDLES & LCD Soundsystem – “Dancer”

TANGK

Post-punk icons IDLES have not released a bad album in their career and it looks like they’re going to continue their hot streak with the newly announced TANGK. Set to be released on February 16, IDLES tapped the vocals of LCD Soundsystem for the album’s lead single. “Dancer” shows an artistic progression for the band while implementing their signature chaos, a truly unforgettable first single for an acclaimed band who humbly approach their new album with refreshing creativity.

BADBADNOTGOOD & Charlotte Day Wilson – “Sleeper”

Single

Every jazz fan is aware that BADBADNOTGOOD is at the forefront of the genre and they continue to prove why on their latest single. A criminally smooth R&B-style arrangement does an interpretive dance with the silk-lined vocals of Charlotte Day Wilson for one of the best singles of the week. The jazzy nature of the track gives it a smooth finish as the vocals cut through with an infectious fervor.

Vincent Neil Emerson – “The Golden Crystal Kingdom”

The Golden Crystal Kingdom

One of the most exciting and talented artists in modern country, Vincent Neil Emerson is gearing up to release a brand new LP and it is shaping up to be his best yet. The Golden Crystal Kingdom is set to be released on November 10 and the artist just released its fantastic title track. The album’s latest single is nothing short of extraordinary, a subtle arrangement allows Emerson’s vocals to reach new heights and deliver vivid imagery for a country track that mixes the genre’s tropes with his vision of what the genre can become.
