LISTEN: Anna Tivel Brings Charming Dreamlike Folk Waltz Via “Outsiders”

Anna Tivel’s latest single “Outsiders” is a whimsical, moonlit promenade that, at least just for a moment, reminds us all that “we’re beautiful when we believe”. The seamless blend between the starry, spacious arrangement and Tivel’s voice almost make it hard to discern where one ends and the other begins while perfectly capturing childlike wonderment one can feel looking back at humankind’s accomplishments despite always being on the verge of self-destruction. “Outsiders” is the title track off the full length due out on August 19 via Mama Bird Recording Co. (Damien Jurado, Courtney Marie Andrews, Haley Heynderickx, Vetiver) alongside a music video produced by Eric J. Loeffler and Vincent Bancheri.

“I wrote this song sitting on the floor in front of the tv between fragments of an Apollo 11 documentary. The news was feeling especially dark, full of pain and distorted truths, and watching all that incredible footage from the ‘69 moon landing hit me right in the gut. For just that one moment in a time of great upheaval, it seemed like everyone paused to look up in wonder at something so remarkable that humankind was able to achieve,” says Tivel.
