LISTEN: Genra’s Unique Flow Gives “Leaving” Some Slick Movement

“Leaving” is the latest optimistic and empowering hip-hop release from Oakland’s Genra. Themes of accepting, overcoming, and moving on from hardships that come your way are expressed through Genra’s unique flow over a slick, mid ’90s circa backing track that begs to be put on repeat. “I grew up on Bay Area music. I lived through the hyphy movement, but I still loved the Hieroglyphics & Souls of Mischief”, says Genra on what inspired him growing up. The full album, Overcomer, is out now.

As some of you may know, I battle with a disease called CFS that has completely changed my life. So the idea of being an Overcomer for me is more than an album title. It’s a way of life that I have to choose to embrace every day. Some days I’m up, some days I’m down, but my goal is to look in the mirror and know I have given my family and my craft 100% when it’s all said and done. This track, “Leaving” is the last song and single from my album (released July 8th ending on a triumphant note. The full project gives you a window into what I think and feel on a daily basis. Not perfect, but me. I hope you love it and choose to support it. I truly appreciate all the love and support y’all have been giving me.
