FULL ALBUM PREMIERE: Up Is The Down Is The Struts Jazz & Soft Rock Prowess On ‘Pulling The Wool’ LP

Up Is The Down Is The was started in 2015 as a looping project inspired by Andrew Bird, Thom Yorke, Moses Sumney, and James Blake. After inviting more and more musicians to collaborate and expanding instrumentation, the project evolved into a four-piece teetering on the edge between art rock, R&B, and electronic minimalism.

In 2020, the group started writing music as a way of processing the isolation from the covid pandemic, and they’ve created their most innovative driving sound yet. Their upcoming album Pulling The Wool will be released on 8/12/22. Up Is The Down Is The is made up of Andrew Martin, Zach Sherwood (western daughter), Cameron Brizzee (western daughter), and Casey Cathy (Transistor Send).

Today, Glide is premiering Pulling the Wool via Earth Libraries in its entiretyLike Whitney and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the band conjures a sweet spot of ’70s soft rock, jazz orchestrations, and gritty indie rock cred. About the album, the group says: “The process of collaboration between the 4 of us and recording everything as live as possible. Overall “Pulling the Wool” is based on thinking you know someone or yourself and realizing that isn’t true and change is inevitable. We produced the album and recorded in different spaces in Boise, ID ranging from living rooms, bedrooms to a middle school band room. Joshua Lewis mixed and sang on the album and he also mixed Built to Spill’s most recent album. I want people to spend time with the songs and find lyrics, chords, ect that they can connect with.”
