WATCH: Elvis Costello w Allan Mayes Makes TV Debut As Rusty With “Surrender To The Rhythm” On ‘Fallon’

Elvis Costello is having one hell of a 2022. He is currently touring with his band The Imposters in support of their album A Boy Named If which was released at the top of the year. In June, he resurrected his band Rusty, the duo of himself and Allan Mayes who first performed together back in 1972. The EP is the first and only record the duo ever recorded together and features two originals along with covers of Nick Lowe, Jim Ford, and Neil Young. Last night (August 10), Rusty took one of their originals by performing “Surrender to the Rhythm” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for their TV debut as Rusty.

Backed by the Imposters, Mayes and Costello performed with matching guitars as they grooved across the stage to the bluesy-rock track. The two pub rock veterans make pushing 70 looks easy, their performance was lively and energetic. The backing band was on point as the two frontmen harmonized the hooks and took turns on the verses.
