Last Year’s Man is the pseudonym of Eugene, OR-based producer, and songwriter, Tyler Fortier.  When one listens to his sparkling hush vocals, the audio connection to Iron and Wine is easily concocted; however, this artist brings a newfound lyrical perspective that draws on deeper insights.

Time Is A Sparrow, the sophomore album from producer Tyler Fortier’s Cinematic Indie-Folk recording project Last Year’s Man is slated for release on 11/18/22. Glide is premiering the radiant and earthy “Spill the Light,” that shines with a touch of heartfelt indie-indie folk that would make Last Year’s Man an ideal fit on any Wilco approved-curated lineup

“From January 2022 to April 2022 I was writing poetry pretty much exclusively. When I was looking at songs to finish this new album I kept going back to those poems and cherry-picking ideas and eventually built some songs out of a handful of them. There is a poem called “The Painter” which inspired “Spill the Light,” says Fortier.

“Spill the Light” also features multi-instrumentalist Philippe Bronchtein (The War & Treaty, Micky Guyton) on pedal steel, electric guitar, and synths. Fortier’s wife and long-time musical collaborator Erin Flood Fortier contributes vocals to the track.

“I went through a phase of binge-watching The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. He would often say, “Don’t kill all your dark areas, you need them to show the light.” That stuck in my head. From January 2022 to April 2022 I was writing poetry pretty much exclusively. I was reading every book and poet I could find at the time and wrote and wrote and then wrote some more. When I was looking at songs to finish this new album I kept going back to those poems and cherry picking ideas and eventually built some songs out of a handful of them. There is a poem called “The Painter,” partly inspired by Bob Ross which then partly inspired the song, “Spill the Light.”
