The convergence of vocalist and guitarist Harry Wilkinson, drummer Jacob Hayes, bassist Matt Buonaccorsi and saxophonist Joe Carroll creates the intense, unflinching nuance of Maruja’s sound. Having garnered a lot of support for their recordings from fans and press alike, Maruja’s live shows are where they feel the sound of the band is at its peak. They have performed at the the Left of the Dial Rotterdam and Manchester Psych Fest, as well as supporting The Lounge Society, L.A. Witch and Enola Gay.
“Thunder”, the latest blast beat, a jazz-infused explosion from Maruja, is an attention-commanding force from the onset. Chock full of dynamic twists and turns, the group melds hardcore and post-punk with a jazz fusion delivery to create an experience that can reach both fans of John Zorn and Converge. No easy feat, but one that by the sounds of it, Maruja currently has the creative drive to try and pull off.
