An artist who finds strength in sensitivity and embraces the full power of a moment, Ailbhe Reddy has a talent for crafting intensely moving alt-folk tunes. On her debut album Personal History, the Irish artist blurs the boundaries between personal and universal experiences to strike emotional chords with her relatable lyricism and uniquely tender vocals.
“Last to Leave” spins a drinking story as old as beer itself. Soft drums and deep thumping bass create the framework of the opening minute as Ailbhe Reddy lightly addresses the subject of her disdain; “Right now you love this, but tomorrow you’ll feel foolish.” The song builds dynamically with more instrumentation including a perfectly reverberated trumpet following Reddy’s melody through the infectious chorus. There’s a wonderful nod to The Cranberries in the way she can effortlessly hit a single or few falsetto notes that feels so natural.
