With the raw energy only a young band early in their career can muster, Way Down the Rainbow strut their manic psychedelia perfectly with the new track “Heppy!” There’s something wonderful about a track that can tip its hat to the energy of the late 90’s/early aughts post-punk scene is such a fresh perspective tonally. It really draws from early high-energy acts that shaped the scene such as Refused or At the Drive-In. Between the tasteful sparse guitar playing, phenomenally distorted bass tone and the singer’s melodic hollering; there’s a lot to dig into here melodically. The rhythmic break and subsequent build about halfway through the tune is definitely a highlight as well. I’m sure we’re in for many more years of music from Way Down the Rainbow.
