As we inch closer to the highly anticipated collaborative album from Black Thought and El Michels Affair, the duo gives us another sneak peek into their upcoming LP. Glorious Game is set to release on April 14 via Big Crown Records and today we’re gifted the title track featuring the ever-impressive vocal work of Kirby on the hook. The pair are both coming off of widely acclaimed releases in 2022, Thought released his highly-praised, Danger Mouse-produced album Cheat Codes while Michels released the deluxe version of his album Yeti Season and scored production credits on numerous releases.
The two first announced Glorious Game back in January with the release of the lead single “Grateful”, an off-kilter exploration into the chemistry between Thought and Michels. The duo’s relationship dates back over two decades ago as they seamlessly combine forces for an onslaught of soulful hip-hop. The recently released title track continues to build hype around the release of Glorious Game as the duo continues to show off their natural abilities. Thought plants his feet firmly in an unwavering pocket as his flows hit you like a combo from Street Fighter while Michael’s arrangement work provides a soulful rhythm through gentle melodies. Kirby’s hook adds a hint of psychedelic music as her voice transforms throughout the hook, adding just the right amount of texture to off put to rest of the straight-forward track.
