Record Store Day 2023 Most Anticipated Releases: Broken Social Scene, Wilco, The Cure & More

With the Grammys in the rearview mirror, there is only one tried and true holiday for music nerds left in the foreseeable future. Record Store Day 2023 is set to take place across the world on April 22 and the organization has recently released the list of exclusive releases set to hit the shelves this spring. With Amanda Shires and Jason Isbell taking on the role of artist ambassadors for 2023, this year is shaping up to be the best Record Store Day in years. 

This year’s list of reissues and first-time-pressings is extensive and glamorous. With artists ranging from Beach House to Björk throwing their hats in the ring, there is something for everyone this upcoming Record Store Day. Glide took on the challenge of whittling down the list to our 10 most anticipated releases hitting your local record store in late April. Check out our picks below: 

Artist: Butcher Brown & Bruce Hornsby 

Album/Song: “Secret House”

Format: Single LP 

The undefinable modern jazz ensemble Butcher Brown is teaming up with the legendary Bruce Hornsby for this exclusive Record Story Day Release. The LP will feature the collaboration between Hornsby and the band entitled “Secret House” with the solo Butcher Brown track “Thirty One” taking up the B-side. 

Roy Ayres

Stoned Soul Picnic

LP 

For the first time in Record Store Day history, legendary jazz musician Roy Ayres will have his classic album Stoned Soul Picnic pressed up on hot wax. Thanks to the good people over at Nature Sounds, Ayres’ third LP will receive an official reissue on splatter vinyl. 

Broken Social Scene

You Forget It In People 

2X LP 

For the 20th anniversary of their seminal album, Broken Social Scene is giving the familiar LP a facelift. With a brand-new cover and liner notes, the reissue will be pressed up on black/blue marble wax and comes with a tour poster and plenty of archival photos from the era. 

The Cure

2X LP Picture Disc

For the first time since its initial release in 1993, The Cure’s live album will be freshly pressed up for RSD ‘23. With Robert Smith himself overseeing the whole reissue, the double LP will be pressed up on picture discs and features a live performance from the band’s 1992 tour when they performed in Auburn Hills, Michigan. 

Ol’ Dirty Bastard

Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version

2X LP Picture Disc

The classic debut album from Wu-Tang’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard is getting yet another reissue, as it deserves. The 1995 classic from hip-hop’s dirty uncle will be pressed up on picture discs and feature the 2020 remastered audio files.

For the first time ever, Mac Miller’s jazzy alter-ego is getting an official physical pressing. The sole release from his jazz band, the fresh pressing will feature exclusive photos from the band’s sole live performance and come in a fitting velvet sleeve pressed up on gold wax. 

Norah Jones

Little Broken Hearts: Live at Allaire Studios 

LP

Not too long ago, Norah Jones holed herself up in a studio located in upstate New York with super-producer Danger Mouse to rework her classic 2012 album. Together, they reworked the arrangements and created a live version of these classic songs. This will be the first time these recordings were ever released to the public and come housed on thick pink vinyl. 

Nas

Made You Look: God’s Son Live 

LP

For the first time ever, Nas’ infamous 2002 performance at Webster Hall is set to be pressed up on wax. With the artwork mimicking the iconic DVD cover, the new pressing comes with remastered audio of the performance. 

Raphael Saadiq 

The Way I See It 

LP 

For the first time in over a decade, Raphael Saadiq’s exploration into 60’s soul is getting repressed. With an all-star cast of performers and featured vocalist, The Way I See It is one of Saadiq’s most celebrated works and will be repressed on red vinyl. 

Wilco

Crosseyed Strangers

LP

Coming off of a Grammy award for the reissue of their seminal Yankee Hotel Foxtrot reissue, Wilco isn’t stopping the anniversary party. They will release alternative/live performances of the entire album. This particular album was initially made available in a copy of Uncut magazine as a bonus CD and is now getting a proper release on wax.
