LISTEN: Natalie Wildgoose Delivers Fearless Folk On Riveting “A Joy of Some Kind”

A gentle expertly captured guitar introduces “A Joy of Some Kind”, the new single from London’s Natalie Wildgoose. It doesn’t take long to be drawn in by Natalie’s velvet vocals and strong usage of unique and difficult melodic intervals. Soft swelling cymbal heavy drums and just a hint of textural guitar hint at the full band arrangement to come in the second half of the song. Once the full feel of the strings hits and the vocals reach their peak energy, you’ll just be left wishing it could last a few more minutes before its soft landing and release.

The song explores the fear of the end of live music as we know it, ranging from classical orchestras to local grassroots venues. It addresses our disconnect with the live music scene as people and the imbalance that has arisen from the use of video/stream-heavy ways of listening and watching music.

The lyrics offer that we are becoming more external to the live music scene and that all around us it is struggling to keep flowing. However, it finishes on a note of hope, depicting the feeling of complete joy that playing music gives us and that, in the end, is why we will always continue to do it.
