LISTEN: dayaway Brings Wildly Infectious Glam Pop On “I Wish”

The glam-pop energy is strong on “I Wish” from NYC’s dayaway. From the repetitive, but wildly infectious instrumental track to the curated lofi music video, beyond the songwriting itself, this is obviously a well-thought-out release front to back. All that would be for nothing though if the song itself couldn’t hold up on its own. Dayaway’s voice is smooth and delivers a catchy melody with lyrics that describe the confusion and frustration of attraction relatably. The refrain is especially impressive in the way it manages to grasp a complicated tangle of emotions while using a bunch of the same words in repetition in a different order.

“I wish I didn’t want you

The way I pretend not to
I wish I didn’t wish you would call
I wish I didn’t have to
Pretend that I don’t want you
I wish I didn’t want you at all”
