After rearing his for only a select few features over the past few years, singer/songwriter/producer Sampha has returned with his first proper single in over five years. “Spirit 2.0” follows up the recent deluxe edition of Sampha’s critically acclaimed and artistically ambitious 2017 debut, Process, and appearances on songs from Kendrick Lamar and SBTRKT. The single was initially previewed during live performances in his hometown of London along with shows in New York City. The single is a collaborative effort with Sampha bringing in the likes of Yussef Dayes, El Guincho, and Owen Pallet along with vocal assistance from Yaeji and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz.

Sampha is somewhat of a prodigy. Diving into music production from a young age, he got his big break in 2010 with his remix of The xx’s “Basic Space” and it was off to the races after that. Sampha would go on to work with artists like Drake and Beyoncé, racking up a level of mystique that made his 2017 debut all the more impactful. Process would go on to yield chart-topping hits and earn Sampha a Mercury Prize. “Spirit 2.0” is the artist’s return to the spotlight, ushering in a new era for one of this generation’s most captivating talents.

“Spirit 2.0” has the artist smoothing out the hard-hitting drum patterns with his cloud-like delivery. The outward positive lyrics bring a sense of humility to Sampha’s alien-like approach to music, allowing for a dynamic song with the perfect balance of electronics and soul. Check out the single below and look out for any more news on upcoming Sampha releases.
