LISTEN: Richard Simeonoff Makes His True Americana Stance On Radio Friendly “Someday”

Weaving together tales of love and loss, with songs about depression and infidelity, he seeks to find the ties that bind us together, even if they aren’t always pretty.  Following up his 2022 debut LP Oh Well, the five songs on Listen to This explore our changes in life, and how we navigate them; through love, death, and, at times, the absurd. Richard Simeonoff turned to producer Trevor Spencer (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty) at Way Out Studios to help bring the songs to life in a new way. That working relationship brought out more than expected for Simeonoff. “Some of these songs were written from a place that I felt too personal to be any good, but Trevor showed me that some of those places lie where I just can’t see the road, but it’s there.”

As the title suggests, “Someday”, the latest single from Simeonoff is a hopeful, reflective story of someone determined to live out the resolutions one makes to themselves on a late night after a long, unproductive or self-defeating day. With “Someday”, Simeonoff stakes his own unique ground in the old tried and true pastures of Americana “leaving” songs. Simeonoff’s new EP, Listen to This, is out now.

“Someday” was a song that came rather quickly, and almost ended up on the cutting room floor. It was a character study of places I’ve been and people I’ve known and I didn’t think too much of it to be honest, but the guys in the band were quite adamant about putting it down. Once I stepped back, and heard it, I was quite grateful to them for that,” says Simeonoff.
