SONG PREMIERE: Wastelander Offers Indie Pop Grandeur On “Get It Right”

While most people have never heard of Wastelander, they may however remember the man behind the band name as Cooper Formant who was the guitarist of the band The Fluids – who were semi-popular some time ago. While past triumphs can only get you so far, sometimes we got to go by the age-old phrase “let the music do the talking.”

Recently Cooper teamed up with bassist Paul Defiglia, known for his work with The Avett Brothers and Langhorne Slim. Drawing upon a deep bench of Nashville talent, he recruited musicians Erin Rae, Jo Schornikow, (Phosphorescent) Spencer Cullum Jr. (Miranda Lambert), Larissa Maestro (Hozier, Allison Russell), and Dom Billet (Courtney Marie Andrews, Andrew Combs) to back him.

His debut LP, What is Left of Me, releases September 29th and Glide is premiering the first track “Get It Right” (below). Wastelander offers hummable hooks with a transcendent breeze of indie that clashes the eclectic worlds of Toro y Moi and Todd Rundgren.

“This song is about coming up against the wall of my limitations and imagining what life would look like without them. You can listen to it a few different ways, but that’s the spirit of how it came about,” says Formant.
