Colorado Springs-based outlaw alt-folk group Tejon Street Corner Thieves have announced their new record Juxtaposition, due out October 27th on Liars Club Records.
Juxtaposition was recorded at Royal Recordings in Colorado Springs, CO with producer Bill Douglas (Veruca Salt, Smashing Pumpkins) and is set to come out via Amigo the Devil and indie powerhouse Regime Music Group’s burgeoning label, Liars Club Records. The 9-track opus sees Tejon finding new ways to integrate an array of genres like Americana, Bluegrass, Folk and Punk into one confident record.
Tejon Street Corner Thieves have come a long way since their humble beginnings busking for change on Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, and being accused of “stealing” a corner during a turf war between rival buskers. Those days are now a distant memory after being the first Liars Club Records signing in 2020. Since then, the group has released an EP (2020’s ‘Demons’), a live acoustic record (2020’s ‘Monarch Sessions’), an album of traditionals (2021’s ‘Stolen Goods’), and a full-length studio album (2022’s ‘Thick As Thieves’) under the label. A perfect concoction of songwriting and musicality, non-stop touring, and charming stage personas have allowed the band to build a grassroots following of “Tejomies” (the moniker affectionately given to their fans) across the globe.
Today Glide is offering an exclusive premiere of the video for the standout track “You Rascal You.” Featuring grainy camcorder footage of the band’s rough and tumble tour life, the video is a proper visual for this lively tune that is equal parts trash-grass, folk-punk, drinking anthem, and boogie bumper. Hell, it even features a kazoo solo. There is an element of humor to the music and the video that was directed by James Wright, but that doesn’t mean you should take these cats seriously as they know how to throw down a proper tune.
Connor O’Neal describes the inspiration behind the tune:
There are rascaly little rabbits everywhere. And they really just get under our skin. Especially when it comes to rascaly little rabbits that try and get with our wives. This traditional banger speaks volumes to us. It brings out a sense of anger and revenge that only Elmer Fudd could understand.
