SONG PREMIERE: Hello June Delivers Explosive & Gritty Guitar Based Rock On “Honey I Promise”

Hello June might very well be the second coming of Lydia Loveless mixed with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit sound-wise. However, this West Virginia indie rock outfit fronted by songwriter Sarah Rudy is melodically ensured where thick bleeding guitar tones mix with well-worn vocals.

On their forthcoming album Artifacts, which is out October 6 via 31 Tigers Records, it might very well be an autumn sleeper for the year-end best-of lists. Across 11 gorgeous and raw tracks, Rudy sings about death, birth, hope, and despair with grace and nuance. “I landed on the title because if there’s one thing we’re left with, it’s memories of other people: artifacts that we take with us through life,” says Rudy. “It’s not just about one thing so if this were just a breakup album, it would be a lot easier. But that’s not the way that life works.”

Glide is thrilled to premiere the ragged glory of “Honey I Promise,” which is explosive, gritty and echoey in all the right spots. From the pounding drums and anthemic guitar chords, Hello June has given our ears something to hold onto and a bit of hope that true rock and roll still has a righteous place in 2023.

“‘Honey I Promise’ explores sorrow and it explores heartbreak, but I don’t think it lacks hope. The song is about knowing that you need to let go of someone (or even an idea of someone) when you don’t really want to. With the lyrics, I dive into the journey that begins when we force ourselves to acknowledge our own pain and sit in our own uncomfortable truths. It’s not pretty, but it is effective for changing you and growing you. Honey I Promise is as much about sorrow as it is about growth,” says Rudy.

  1. I’ve been waiting for this album and am thrilled by the nuances in “Honey I Promise.” Terrific stuff and can’t wait to hear all 11 tracks.
